Roller Hockey Equipment
Wednesday 30 July 2008 @ 12:45 pm

Roller hockey, also known as inline hockey, is played on roller or inline skates with wheels, which are placed in sets of three or four in a single line. Skates are generally priced at $100 and up.

Aluminum sticks are preferred for roller hockey, however, wooden sticks covered with fiberglass may also be used. This is because concrete or cement, upon which inine hockey is usually played, is much harder on the sticks than ice. The sticks, with suede or rubber grips, are broader and bent at the base, to maneuver the puck or ball and are priced at upwards of $20.

Roller hockey is played with either a puck or a ball. The puck is made of hard, vulcanized rubber and is made in regulation sizes; balls are made of plastic. Both cost about $5 each.

Goal nets are supported by steel frames with nylon nets and can be dismantled for storage. They are approximately the same as those used for ice hockey. Costs run about $400 depending on quality.

Roller hockey players wear loose jerseys, pants and socks. For protection, helmets with mouth guards, kneepads and elbow pads are recommended. Hockey glovesor at least wrist guardsshould be worn. More safety-conscious players may also wear shoulder pads and padded pants with shin guards as well as a jockstrap.

Goalies, of course, need more protection. In addition to all the protective gear mentioned above, a goalie must also be equipped with chest, back and throat protectors, extra-padded leg pads, mask cages and more. Roller hockey is a street game with as many safety concerns as regulation hockey. In fact, roller hockey can be more dangerous since, although the game is not quite as fast as ice hockey, concrete or cement does not allow one to slide along the surface when one falls, causing more scrapes to the skin.

The Added Advantage In African American Children’s Education: Computer Homeschooling (Part 4)
Tuesday 29 July 2008 @ 9:29 pm

We’ve got spirit, yes we do! We’ve got spirit how ’bout you!

Parents and friends in our third article we championed using computers to homeschool african american children and prepare them for a future where computers will have an impact on every part of our society. In the final part 4 article we will complete the series by stressing the importance of making sure your computers and broadband Internet connection is secure from the daily attack of hackers, viruses and thieves.. oh my!

Lions, tigers and bears in digital form are being unleashed on the Internet daily, if not almost hourly. Now most parents would get the idea that if it’s that bad then why use the Internet at all. If you take a closer look at the educational environment today, there are lions, tigers and bears already out there in public and private schools waiting to take advantage of our african american children each and everyday. It’s almost become a challenge to just stay alive, let alone avoid drugs, teen pregnancy and other ills.

The difference between the two learning arenas is that while they are at home learning you have more control protecting them and more tools to defend against whatever comes their way. It’s far better to have a daily defense for your african american children’s learning, then to wonder what’s going on at their school.

Now, let’s get to looking at viruses (lions), hackers (tigers) and thieves (bears) to keep out of your computer and your home. Virus software is as important to your computer and the network it’s connected to as proper nutrition is to your children. Both help to defend against having a healthy computer/child becoming sick or worse.

Make sure your virus software is up-to-date and that your computer’s operating system is updated constantly. Run your virus software daily, yes daily and check for updates daily to make sure the software has the latest tools to protect your computer. Viruses, worms and other bad software code is being released near hourly at times, so running your virus software everyday and keeping it updated is a must. Teach your children about viruses and what to do to keep your computers safe and virus free.

The Enduring, Alluring Gazebo
Tuesday 29 July 2008 @ 8:09 pm

From their origins as rooftop structures, used mainly for observation, to their present status, gazebos have taken many forms. Throughout their colorful history, they have been known as summerhouses, screen houses, kiosks, pavilions, pergolas, arbors, grottos, and pagodas.
The word ‘gazebo’ first appeared in the 1752 book, New Designs for Chinese Temples,’ by architect William Halfpenny. Though no one is certain, etymologists speculate that Halfpenny invented the word by playfully adding the Latin ending -ebo, as in videbo (’I shall see’) to the word ‘gaze’ to get the meaning ‘I will look.’
Prized by members of Egyptian royalty, gazebos were essential parts of their gardens, and have been found, depicted in murals, in tombs dating to 1400 b.c. They were also popular with the aristocracy of ancient Rome and Pompeii, and were built as summerhouses along the Mediterranean.
Today, gazebos have grown so popular in this country, that they are almost as common as garages. Although some are still used as quiet places to enjoy the beauty of a garden, others have been elevated to loftier positions, as summerhouses, or lavish entertainment centers, with doors, windows, screens, decks, electricity, and plumbing. Many have special lighting, hot tubs, fire pits, and brick barbecues. Arbors, ornamental fountains, bird feeders, birdbaths, wishing wells, koi ponds, and bridges, are also popular landscaping accessories for gazebos.
From wood to synthetics, there are several types of material from which gazebos may be constructed. Radiant, durable Western Red Cedar, for example, has natural oils that protect it from decay, while its dimensional stability helps to keep it from warping. Cedar may be sealed and stained to maintain its reddish hue, or allowed to weather to a rich gray.
Pressure-treated pine also makes a sturdy, long-lasting gazebo because it is highly resistant to decay and insect damage. A kiln-drying process, before and after pressure treatment, minimizes warping, checking, and twisting. As with all wood gazebos, a stain/sealer should be applied to the entire structure, including the floor and the roof, once a year, to protect it from the elements.
Vinyl gazebos are made with treated pine that has been covered with an attractive vinyl coating, which results in an exceptionally durable, maintenance-free finish.
When choosing a material, don’t forget to factor in your region’s weather. If your area is subject to heavy rain or snow, high winds, or severe storms, you may want to consider one of the new Category 4 Hurricane Gazebos from GazeboCreations.com. With heavy-duty metal, high wind load brackets and hangers, and reinforced posts, braces, floor joists, rafters, and other components, these gazebos can withstand 150 mph sustained winds.

Visit Wickenburg, Arizona
Friday 25 July 2008 @ 1:00 am

Wickenburg is located 50 miles northwest of Phoenix. It’s pretty far out from the city so that it would be tough to try to include it within one’s idea of the greater metropolitan area.

However, with the galloping growth of the Phoenix area Wickenburg is getting closer and closer every day. Wickenburg is at an elevation of 2,100 feet- and this is a good thing because it offers some relief from the scorching temperatures that mercilessly pound down upon the dusty desert plain.

Residents of Wickenburg can high-tail it into, or out of, town by taking State Highway 93 (Grand Avenue), which travels northwest diagonally from metropolitan Phoenix. This route is the quick way to go.

Wickenburg is right next to Hassayampa River, which means “river that flows upside down.” The Native Americans living in the area gave the river its name, due to the fact that the river actually flows 20 feet below the surface for most of its 100 mile course through the desert.

Today, it is still one of the last free-flowing rivers in the Arizona desert.

Water in the desert?

What a concept!

This makes the area unique and attractive in a very remarkable way and the river makes the town of Wickenburg is a great place to live.

Nestled in the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains, along the Hassayampa River, the town of Wickenburg has grown to become a popular place to call home. It was the first town built north of Tucson, making it one of the oldest towns in Arizona. Wickenburg is a progressive community that carefully maintains a high quality of life.

Climate

The climate is typical of the southwest. There is a mild winter that is balanced by a long hot, dry summer. Many have claimed that the dry, hot summer conditions have helped to relive many of their allergy symptoms.

Summer days are clear and spectacular and the temperatures are truly remarkable. Spring and autumn are mild transitions into the other seasons. There is a brief monsoon season that is truly extraordinary.

History of Wickenburg

Town historians have agreed to begin Wickenburg’s city timeline in 1863. It was then that Henry Wickenburg, a German immigrant, came to the area and discovered gold. This discovery eventually became the well chronicled Vulture Mine.

Henry found his fortune in the stark Arizona plains so long ago as the Vulture Mine proved to be the most profitable gold and silver mine in the desert.

And people have continued to pass through this cozy town ever since on the way to their destinies in the important metropolitan areas farther west.

The few settlers, names unknown, that first dwelt here were small time ranchers. Then the gold fever hit and this nondescript area shone brightly for its 15 minutes., In the 1920’s and 1930’s, dude ranches, offered cookouts, trail rides, and hayrides, started popping up in Wickenburg.

These dude ranches probably provided much of the material to the series of delightful comedies that have appeared on film recently in these settings

Today several functioning dude ranches remain on the edge of town plying their assortment of goods and services for the voracious appetite of eager tourists from all over the globe. It’s a living chronicle- a town run amuck in history and tradition.

And it’s all just a small part of Wickenburg’s idea of how to keep the old west feeling alive.

Wickenburg can offer you desert, history, and the promise of a changing future. If you’re looking at Arizona then that’s what you’re interested in the first analysis, right?

The town gives its residents the comforts of city living. An adjacent airport, curbed streets, town utilities, and paved streets are some of the benefits this small town provides.

Wickenburg has reconciled with the past and is ready to play an active part in the changing Arizona tapestry.

So find your pleasant paradise as you sit blissfully along the banks of the lazy Hassayampa River watching time march by.

Wickenburg Entertainment

There are a wide range of services available in Wickenburg, along with a relaxing Western lifestyle that so many residents enjoy. With more than 400 businesses in town, residents have a full range of services, stores, and specialty shops at their disposal

Wickenburg is no “plains Jane”- the people just prefer a low profile style with a minimum of commotion. The Desert Caballeros Western Museum situated in downtown, showcases acclaimed collections of Western art and artifacts. Modest and tasteful special events and shows are offered throughout the year at the museum for residents and visitors.

Main Street has been preserved. Luckily for the historically minded visitor the urban sprawl and extensive development never took place here. Not so much as a tace- so that you can be here, and see here, what people were all about when some folks were advising others to save their Confederate currencies!

Even the old Santa Fe Train Station has been converted into the Chamber of Commerce building. Wickenburg residents spend most of their time strolling uncluttered downtown streets, talking about the weather and sharing the hospitality they’ve brought along from so many other wonderful places.

Wickenburg Outdoor Recreation

The town of Wickenburg once held the title of Dude Ranch Capital of the World. It is hard to imagine who could have wrestled this distinction away- but the matter must certainly be under appeal.

Today, the town still has several dude ranches. However, one of the biggest pastimes in town is the sport of golf. There are several courses available in and around the surround area that are available play year round. With warm weather and sunny skies, a round of golf is the perfect way to spend a day in Wickenburg.

Outdoor recreation is something everyone likes to do. It is good for you, too. Probably 9 out of 10 doctors would say that active participation in exercise strengthens the body; helps stave off disease and lengthens life.

Just be careful of injuries!

Hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and much more are part of living in Wickenburg. Residents enjoy spending time outside. People often say, “You will be sure to find it all out Wickenburg way!”

The Hassayampa River Preserve is a popular outdoor spot for many people. A nature trail along the Hassayampa River allows hikers an opportunity to get a glimpse of some of the 220 species of birds that call this preserve home.

Wickenburg is a terrific place for those who want to combine the history of the old west with an outdoor lifestyle.

A Website Model That Makes Money Online
Thursday 24 July 2008 @ 2:38 pm

I would like to share with you one simple stratergy in creating income with your own website. This is just one method out of simply millions that you could create for yourself. Remember the internet provides no limits. This is one example that does work for me, and may give you an insight into exactly a website model, that you may like to put into action for yourself. Affiliate marketing and/or sales of any kind on the internet, requires a real commitment, as I am sure you do already realize. The internet is really one of the greatest training grounds in the world for sales. You can try and fail many times, until you find that system and approach that will work for you. But the commitment that you show in meeting this challenge, will be a lesson that you will always remember. Success is always achieved in no matter what you do, through simple hard work. There is no easy path to success, but when you achieve the success you are after, there is no greater feeling. So lets begin. In this example my website, which for the purposes of this article i will call ‘????’. I will give you the exact profit breakdowns.

With this website I treat all my affiliate products as purely residual income, much like adsense. Adsense itself generates for me, on this website, on average around $2 per day. I also use various other companies affiliate products, which generate around $200 per month. Also within the website, I sell e-book informational products, which I own the full resale rights for, which generate around $700 per month. And here lies the answer to making money online, no matter what you sell. The products, that generate the most income, are the ones that you will own yourself. Certainly I should be making more from the affiliate info products that I sell. But I lose commissions through simple affiliate url tampering. Commissions that are stolen or lost are a real pain. You can try every method in the book to protect your affiliate codes. But after all the hard work is done, you still lose that valuable income. The people who sell the original affiliate product know this, which is mostly why a high percentage of the sales price is offered to an affiliate to begin with. Because they realize that a very high ratio of sales made on their products will give them the total profit back. The reasons why people change affiliate product codes etc, could run into pages. Lets just say it is inevitable. This is the reason why I treat all my affiliate based products as purely residual income.

But as you can see in this example clearly where the highest return on investment lies. And that is in the products that you actually own. You can purchase resale rights for info products easily, and it involves not much money at all, most products are available for under $50. Or if you have the time and patience to search the internet. You can find amazing e-books that have free resell rights and the information they contain is really valuable. You will find these types of treasures occasionally, and the lights will start flashing in your eyes when you do. The information that you have just discovered is of value and that is a real key to success. This is why I, at this point, strongly emphasize the importance of this one principle. Only sell products that you feel strongly about and
you know that will be of great value to the person who may purchase it. That includes products you have bought the resale rights for, or a free product, you have discovered with resale rights.

If you sell strong products with real informational value consistently you will always succeed. Your customers will return, quite simply because they know where the value of the information they seek is the greatest. And that is at your website. Always remember to put yourself into your visitors shoes. Ask yourself the question? Would you buy the products you are selling? Answer this question with a Yes. And you will be really on the start too online success.

Can Harley Davidson’s Secret Weapon Revitalise Your Marketing?
Tuesday 22 July 2008 @ 10:06 pm

Imagine yourself in a helicopter over Milwaukee, USA, on the
shiny morning of June 13, 1998.

You look down casually on the criscrossing tangle of roads on Interstate 94, and then do a doubletake. You can’t believe your eyes.

It seems like there are hundreds of moving objects on the highway below. Maybe even thousands. You watch in horror as a veritable sea of black advances like warrior ants into downtown Milwaukee.

You hastily reach for your binoculars and your heart goes thump, thump, thump. Thousands upon thousands of Harley bikers, swathed in trademark leather and shining chrome bikes seem to be almost invading the city.

What should you do? Maybe you should call the newspaper. The police perhaps. Surely Milwaukee needs some sort of warning.

But it’s too late. The bikers are already in the city.

Then you see the fluttering flags

The roads of Milwaukee seem to be lined with cheering people.
Flags flutter in the sunshine. The roar of the crowd seems to
drown the chucka, chucka, chucka sound of the helicopter you’re in.

Down at street level, 50,000 proud Harleys roar through the city.
You don’t know it yet, but among those riders are senior executives, CEOs, employees and long-time owners of Harleys. It’s a heck of a parade and over 125,000 owners turn up for Harley’s big 95th Come Home’ birthday.

Wouldn’t it surprise you, even appall you, to know that in the spring of 1984, just 14 years earlier, only twenty eight bikers showed up?

28 to 365,000 members: What changed in 14 years?

It’s called HOG. Short for Harley Owners Group.

Harley had dug a deep financial hole for themselves in 1983. Money for advertising was kinda non-existent. Saddled with this Catch 22 situation, Harley Davidson set about creating the first HOG chapter.

Using newsletters and club magazines they built their susbcriber
base one member at a time. From one solitary chapter, the HOG has mushroomed to an astounding 940 chapters around the world.

Working on an advertising budget of 10 cents or less

In 1997, Harley Davidson spent just $1 million on advertising. Before you say “Oh, I don’t have a million,” — look at Harley’s
advertising budget for 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1992…all the way to 1984.

Zero.

A big fat zero.

All their money, squillions of dollars, went into creating an absolutely top-notch product. And then creating a community that would buy into the brand.

You were expecting some big secret, weren’t you?

It’s called community. Yeah, that’s the big secret. Creating community among your clients. Harley does it. Sting does it. Apple does it. So why don’t you do it?

It’s way too much trouble, huh?

Well let’s jump back to Harley Davidson’s profit line. Think jackets, boots, gloves, t-shirts, bike accessories, baseball caps. Then do the math. Don’t you think each HOG member is going to spend at least $10 to keep up his/her Harley image?

What’s $10 profit x 350,000 members? You got it. $3.5 million.

Now let’s look at actual figures In 1996, Harley took home $100 million. Up from $20 million, just eight years before in 1988. Mind boggling, huh?

And we’re not even counting the profits from the sales of the
Harley bikes!

So how can you do a Harley?

Let’s face it. You work too damn hard in your business

Yes, you know you’ve got to sell time and again to a customer.
And yes you know the real profit lies in your existing customer
coming back time and again. And that customers talk to customers and it helps to build sales.

But where the heck are you going to get the time to do all of this
community business?

If Katrina can do it, you can

Katrina runs a little dress store in a town that boasts of less than 15,000 residents. Business can be cut-throat, specially with the
big megastores within ’small business gobbling distance.’

Yet Katrina’s done a ‘Harley.’

Every month, Katrina heads out for coffee. And she’s not alone.
In the quaint little cafe down the road, there’s a hubbub of excitement. Katrina’s customers are having a whale of a time. They’re laughing, chatting and tucking into cheesecake — while Katrina picks up the tab month after month.

Do you see the word advertising anywhere?

Printing of glossy brochures? Hundreds of dollars of publicity?

All it costs is $2.50 for a coffee. Per customer. Per month.

That’s all it takes. And Katrina’s community builds one customer at a time. Customers bring friends, friends bring friends and the dresses fly out of Katrina’s dress store.

Why community is the most powerful secret of all

1) The competition doesn’t have a clue

While conventional advertising and publicity is great, it costs
serious moolah. And everyone, including competitors, can see
exactly what you’re doing. Once they get their grubby hands
on your plans, they can outspend you, outsmart you and send your business into outer Mongolia.

With community, you can see who’s coming through the door. And you’re the doorkeeper. It gives you the chance to create Super Glue loyalty, long before your competition wises up.

2) Communities give specific and vital feedback

Ja, ja. They may complain good-naturedly at times. But mostly
they’ll be giving you valuable feedback. They’ll tell you what they want and what is passe. Tey’ll bond with you. Trust you and your judgement with each meeting.

You will no longer have to guess what your customers want.
They’ll tell you even without your asking. What more could you ask for?

3) No man is an island

You’ve heard that phrase before. No man or woman likes to be an isolated case. Psychologically, we all like to be part of a group, a society, a country or a community of some sort. Give your clients something to cling to and watch how leaders and volunteers form within the community, dramatically lessening your workload.

Bankers call it compound interest

Invest in an account now and put away a little bit every day
Suddenly before you know it, you’ve got gazillions in the bank.
Building community is no different. You’ll have to put the pieces together, one evangelist at a time.

Ladies and gentlemen, rev up your engines. Hit the road and start building your community. And you’ll find as Harley has found with HOG.

That yes, communities do bring home the ‘bacon.’ ;)
